No Surprise & Good Faith Estimate

AT KADKHODAIAN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH CENTER (KBHC)

(A copy of this notice is also available in our office.)

Effective January 1, 2022, all healthcare providers, including KBH Center, are required to provide a Good Faith Estimate to clients who are not using insurance or do not have insurance for their services.

What is the No Surprises Act?

The No Surprises Act was created to prevent “surprise” medical bills. It helps you understand all your healthcare costs upfront, especially when you’re not using insurance.

Here’s what this law means for you when you’re seeking counseling services at KBH Center:

      • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services. This includes related costs like medical tests or prescription drugs, should they be necessary for your care.

      • Your healthcare provider should give you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your service. You can also ask for one before you schedule any service.

      • Save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate! If you receive a bill that’s at least $400 more than your estimate, you have the right to dispute it.

How This Applies to KBH Center Clients

At KBH Center, we believe in clear and upfront communication about fees. All our fees are discussed and outlined in the Consent and Disclosure document you review and sign when you begin working with a counselor.

Here’s how our process aligns with the Good Faith Estimate requirements:

Session-by-Session Payment: You only pay for one session at a time. You’re not committed to paying for your next session until the cancellation window is reached (typically 24 hours before your scheduled appointment). You’re never committed to attending or paying for future sessions beyond that.

Referrals: If we refer you to services outside KBH Center, please know you are never obligated to see a provider we suggest.

Your Initial Good Faith Estimate: For your initial counseling session, your Good Faith Estimate will cover the cost of that session only. We will inform you of this fee upfront.

Updated Estimates: Mental health treatment is unique. It can take time to fully understand a diagnosis, and sometimes counseling is beneficial even without a formal diagnosis. Each person’s journey and progress are unique, meaning the duration of counseling can vary significantly. Because of these factors, your initial estimate will be for that first session. Once we meet and better understand your needs, we’ll provide an updated Good Faith Estimate that includes:

  • An estimated diagnosis (if applicable).
  • Recommended services.
  • The estimated frequency of those services.
  • An estimate of the total cost for your ongoing care.

Reviewing Your Estimate: Your Good Faith Estimate can be reviewed at any time upon your request. We may also initiate a review if necessary. This estimate might change based on factors like your life circumstances, your progress toward your counseling goals, new insights gained during therapy, or adjustments to your treatment plan.
